“May you be ruined for the rest of the day!”

Thereupon Allah revealed:

“Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!
Neither his wealth nor what he has earned will avail him.
He will soon burn in a flaming Fire,
and so will his wife, the carrier of firewood,
with a rope of twisted fiber around her neck.” (al-Masad 111:1–5)

He then summoned Quraysh to Allah, commanding them to worship Allah alone with no partner. Concerning them Allah the Exalted revealed:

“For the accustomed security of Quraysh—
their accustomed security in the caravan journeys of winter and summer—
let them, therefore, worship the Lord of this House,
who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear.” (Quraysh 106:1–4)

Allah has revealed in numerous other passages His command that all creation worship Him, such as His words:

“O mankind, worship your Lord who created you and those before you, so that you may become God-fearing.” (al-Baqarah 2:21)

and His words:

“I did not create jinn and humankind except to worship Me.” (al-Dhāriyāt 51:56)

Quraysh were his own people, and the majority of them at first rejected him, as the Most High says:

“Your people have denied it, though it is the truth.” (al-Anʿām 6:66)
