Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

“How many a fault-finder censures a sound statement, while the flaw lies only in his own warped understanding!”—and what, then, of the Qur’an, the most sublime of all scriptures?

Second: They cling to the ambiguous passages in those earlier books and contradict their clear, decisive texts—exactly as they have done with the Qur’an, only more blatantly.

Third: Were the revelation he brought truly contradictory, he could not be the Messenger of Allah, for whatever comes from Allah is never inconsistent; contradiction attaches only to that which issues from other than Allah. The Exalted said:

“Do they not, then, ponder the Qur’an? Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would surely have found in it much discrepancy.” ⦗an-Nisāʾ 82⦘

Every book that is not from Allah must inevitably contain contradictions, whereas whatever is from Allah is free of them. Thus, if the revelation he brought were contradictory, they would have no right to adduce anything from it, for it would not be from Allah. And if it proves free of contradiction, the verses asserting the universality of his mission—and that he is a messenger to them as well—stand confirmed, with nothing in the book to negate them, because what comes from Allah does not contradict itself.

Fourth: We shall show that the passages proclaiming the universal scope of his prophethood do not conflict with those stating that he was sent to the Arabs, just as the verses commanding him to warn his nearest kinsfolk and addressing Quraysh do not conflict with his summons to the rest of the Arabs; for specifying part of a general category for explicit mention
