Likewise, the Exalted says in another place:

“When Abraham said to his father and his people, ‘I repudiate absolutely whatever you worship—except for the One who originated me, for He will surely guide me.’” (al-Zukhruf 43:26–27)

And He says:

“I have turned my face toward Him who created the heavens and the earth, pure in devotion to Him, and I am not of the polytheists.” (al-Anʿām 6:79)

Notice that he did not say, “I am not one of the muʿaṭṭilūn (those who negate the Creator),” for his people were idolaters, not deniers like Pharaoh the accursed. They did not reject the existence of the Maker; rather, they set up equals beside Him and appointed partners to Him in worship, in love, and in supplication.

This is just as the Exalted says:

“All praise is due to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and made darkness and light; yet those who disbelieve equate others with their Lord.” (al-Anʿām 6:1)

And He, Exalted, says:

“Among mankind are those who take rivals apart from Allah, loving them as they should love Allah; but those who believe are stronger in their love for Allah.” (al-Baqarah 2:165)

And He, Exalted, says:

“Those who do not call upon another deity alongside Allah…” (al-Furqān 25:68)
