And the Exalted One has said:

“They worship, instead of Allah, things that can neither harm nor benefit them, yet they say, ‘These are our intercessors with Allah.’ Say: ‘Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on the earth?’ Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above the partners they ascribe.” [Yūnus: 18]

He, the Exalted, also said:

“The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise. We have sent down to you the Book in truth; so worship Allah, dedicating the religion sincerely to Him alone. Surely pure religion belongs to Allah alone. Those who take patrons besides Him say, ‘We worship them only so that they may bring us nearer to Allah.’ Allah will judge between them concerning whatever they differ about. Indeed, Allah does not guide anyone who is a lying ingrate. Had Allah willed to take a child, He could have chosen whatever He wished from what He creates. Transcendent is He; He is Allah, the One, the Irresistible.” [az-Zumar: 1-4]

The point is that the polytheists of every nation never claimed that created beings have distinct creators equal to one another in attributes; no acknowledged group of humanity has ever maintained such a view. Only the dualists among the Magians and their ilk say that the universe issues from two sources—light and darkness—where the light, according to them, is the praiseworthy god of good, while the darkness is the blameworthy god of evil. Some of them add that darkness is the Devil, so that all the evil found in the world may be traced back to darkness.
