Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

“If the hypocrites, those whose hearts are sick, and the rumor-mongers in Madinah do not desist, We shall surely set you upon them; then they will not remain your neighbors there except for a little while.” ⦗Al-Ahzab 33:60⦘ (60)

“Accursed wherever they are found; they shall be seized and put to death—slain without mercy.” ⦗Al-Ahzab 33:61⦘ (61)

“Such is Allah’s way with those who passed on before, and you will never find any change in Allah’s way.” ⦗Al-Ahzab 33:62⦘

The word sunna means an established practice. This, then, is Allah’s well-known practice: whenever someone who claims prophethood is granted victory—together with his followers—over those who oppose him, whether that victory be outward and inward or an inward, lasting triumph, such victory itself is proof that he is a truthful prophet. Allah’s constant practice is to give the believers who follow His truthful messengers victory over the disbelievers and the hypocrites, just as His practice is to support them with manifest signs; this victory is among those signs.

By contrast, anyone who falsely claims prophethood is among the most unbelieving of the unbelievers and the most unjust of the unjust. Allah, Exalted is He, says:

“Who could be more unjust than one who fabricates lies against Allah, or says, ‘It has been revealed to me,’ while nothing has been revealed to him, or who says, ‘I will send down something equal to what Allah has sent down’?” ⦗Al-Anʿam 6:93⦘

He also says:

“Who, then, is more unjust than one who lies against Allah and rejects the truth when it comes to him?” ⦗Az-Zumar 39:32⦘
