And He also said:

“Indeed, Our word has already gone forth to Our servants, the messengers, (171)

that they will surely be helped, (172)

and that Our forces will indeed be the victorious.” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 37:171-173⦘ (173)

In the same way, the truths that are grasped by sheer necessity are in no way undermined: that Allah sends down the rain at its appointed time to irrigate the fields; that He channels the Nile so the land of Egypt may drink; that He fashioned the human organs for the benefits they provide—grasping with the two hands, walking with the two feet, seeing with the two eyes, hearing with the two ears, and speaking with the tongue. He made the fluid of the eye salty because the eye is fatty in substance, and the salt keeps it from dissolving. He made the moisture of the ear bitter so that flies will not penetrate to the brain. He made the saliva sweet so that food and drink might be palatable. And He made the water of the sea briny so that living beings might survive, for had it been fresh, the death of the great creatures within it would corrupt the air, causing humans and livestock to perish from that foul wind. These are but a few of the countless manifestations of Allah’s witnessed wisdom in His creation.

The deniers of purposiveness say, “We only know that this accompanies that by virtue of the habit Allah has set in motion, even though He did not create something for the sake of something else.” And likewise, whoever denies—
