Then He mentions the story of Abraham and, at its close, declares: “Indeed, in that is a sign, yet most of them were not believers.” ⦗al-Shuʿarāʾ 103⦘ Likewise, He repeats the same wording in the stories of Noah, Hūd, Ṣāliḥ, Lot, and Shuʿayb. Among the signs He set forth is the pervasive curse that clings to those who denied them, and the enduring good repute, praise, and supplication that He bestowed upon the prophets themselves and upon those who believed with them. Thus, concerning Noah, the Exalted says:
“And We left for him among later generations” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 78⦘ (78)
“Peace be upon Noah throughout all peoples.” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 79⦘
Likewise, about Abraham:
“And We left for him among later generations” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 108⦘ (108)
“Peace be upon Abraham.” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 109⦘
—that is, We preserved this commendation on the tongues of those who came after him. The same pattern appears in the account of Moses and Aaron:
“And We left for them among later generations – Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 108–120⦘
and again:
“Peace be upon Elias.” ⦗al-Ṣāffāt 130⦘
