Section: Among the signs of the prophets is Allah’s destruction of those who denied them and His support for the believers who followed them

Among the unmistakable signs granted to the prophets is that Allah destroys their deniers and grants victory to those who believe in them. This is one of the hallmarks of their prophethood and a proof of their truthfulness: He drowned the people of Noah when they rejected him; He annihilated the people of ʿĀd with a biting, furious wind; He destroyed the people of Ṣāliḥ with a single deafening blast; He eradicated the people of Shuʿayb with the overshadowing cloud; He overturned the cities of Lot’s people and rained stones upon them; and He likewise wiped out Pharaoh’s people by drowning. Allah relates these accounts in various places in the Quran and makes it plain that they are prophetic signs attesting to the messengers’ veracity, as He says in Surat al-Shuʿarāʾ, after recounting the story of Moses:

“Indeed, in that is a sign, yet most of them were not believers.” ⦗al-Shuʿarāʾ 8⦘
