Section: Qur’anic proofs that the messengers came with signs

The signs of prophethood and their proofs appear during the Messenger’s lifetime, shortly before his birth, and even after his death; they are not restricted to his earthly life—much less to the period when he first proclaimed prophethood or issued a challenge, as some scholastic theologians have imagined. Rather, there must be signs in his lifetime that testify to his truthfulness, through which the proof is established and the straight path becomes manifest. As the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said in the sound hadith:

“There has never been a prophet except that he was given signs upon which people believed; what I have been given is revelation that Allah has sent down to me, and I therefore hope to have the largest following on the Day of Resurrection.”

Allah the Exalted also says in Surah Ibrahim:

“Alif – Lam – Ra. A Book We have sent down to you so that, by their Lord’s permission, you may bring mankind out of darkness into light, to the path of the Mighty, the Praiseworthy.” ⦗Ibrahim: 1⦘
