“…May Allah curse the Jews and the Christians; they turned the graves of their prophets into places of worship,” thereby warning against what they had done.

ʿĀʾishah said, “Had it not been for that statement, his grave would have been displayed openly; but he disliked that it be taken as a mosque.”

It is likewise confirmed through successive, independent reports that he forbade performing prayer at the moment of sunrise and at the moment of sunset, and that he used to offer a sacrifice on the Day of Sacrifice. Indeed, to the scholars who have studied his life, his well-known omissions are as authentically transmitted as his well-known actions. Thus it is firmly established that he never had the adhān (call to prayer) proclaimed for either of the two ʿEid prayers, nor for the eclipse prayer, nor for the prayer for rain; that he performed the eclipse prayer with two bowings in each rakʿah, making it a lengthy prayer; that he would circumambulate the Kaʿbah seven times and then pray two rakʿahs after the ṭawāf, and that he did not pray two rakʿahs after the saʿy between Ṣafā and Marwah. It is equally attested that he himself used to fast continuously yet forbade others from doing so.
