Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

Paradise; none of them was known to have deliberately voiced even a single falsehood about the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

Likewise, when food and water were multiplied during the expedition of Khaybar, those present numbered 1,500, and at Tabūk they were many thousands. Some of the eyewitnesses to these events recounted those signs in the presence of other eyewitnesses, then went on to relay them to further groups; those listeners, in turn, carried the reports to still others. Each confirmed the other’s account: one narrator would relate exactly what another had related, without prior collusion or mutual prompting, and at the very least his peers would acknowledge the report and raise no objection to it.

We know—by the innate disposition with which Allah has fashioned His servants and by the settled practice of the early generations of this community, who believed truthfulness to be obligatory, pursued it diligently, and were extremely wary of attributing any lie to their Prophet, regarding such a deed as extremely grave—

that it had reached them through multiple corroborated chains that he said:

“man kadhaba ʿalayya mutaʿammidan fal-yatabawwaʾ maqʿadahu minaʾl-nār” (Whoever knowingly lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire).

Thus we know that they would never countenance anyone whom they recognized to be fabricating statements about him. If a man reported something from him regarding matters they themselves had witnessed and he was lying, they immediately knew that he had lied
