Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

to cast upon a prophet’s tongue something that Allah would later abrogate and efface, or is such a thing altogether impossible? In any event, it is inconceivable that he be left to persist in error.

Our aim here is to cite some of the Prophet’s supplications—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—that were actually witnessed to be answered. Earlier we mentioned several of them: his prayer against the chiefs of Quraysh, who were killed on the Day of Badr and thrown into the pit; his prayer against ʿUtaybah ibn Abī Lahab; his prayer against the man who fabricated lies about him, asking that the culprit be made a sign; and his prayer on the occasion when provisions were scarce and the Companions gathered what remained on a leather mat, whereupon Allah multiplied it through the blessing of his supplication until it satisfied the large army in the Expedition of Tabuk. Similarly, during the Expedition of the Trench his supplication caused a single sâʿ of barley to feed a thousand men; and when the water of the well at al-Ḥudaybiyah had been exhausted, his supplication made it flow abundantly until it sufficed the caravan—one thousand five hundred men along with their mounts.

We have also mentioned his supplication for the blind man whose sight was restored; his prayer for rain, so that he had not yet lowered his hands before the sky poured forth; his prayer for clear skies, and his gesture toward the clouds that made them scatter instantly; his invocation against Suraqah ibn Juʿshum when the latter pursued them during the Hijrah, causing Suraqah’s horse to sink into the ground; and his supplications on the Day of Badr and the Day of Hunayn. About the former Allah said:

“When you appealed to your Lord for help, He answered you: ‘I am reinforcing you with a thousand angels, one rank after another.’” ⦗8:9⦘
