on the Day of Badr; afterwards they were dragged to the pit, the pit of Badr.

From him it is also reported: the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, turned to face the qiblah and invoked against six men, and he related the report.

In another version: Umayyah ibn Khalaf, however, was a large man; his limbs were cut apart, so he was not thrown into the well.

He went on to say: “The sun had disfigured them, for the day was scorching.”

Included under this heading as well is everything people have unfailingly witnessed and heard of Allah’s vengeance upon those who revile Him and disparage His religion through various kinds of punishment. The many accounts of this are too numerous to set out here in detail. Indeed, we ourselves have seen and heard cases whose full description would be lengthy—instances of Allah’s retribution upon those who harm His Messenger by means of amazing punishments that clearly show Allah’s protection of his honour, His support for him, and His exaltation of his rank.
