—Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthūm—before the marriage had even been consummated. Utaybah then said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “I disbelieve in your religion and repudiate your daughter; you do not love me and I do not love you.” He went on to abuse him and tore his shirt. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then prayed:
“O Allah, unleash upon him one of Your dogs.”
Utaybah set out with a party of Quraysh until they stopped for the night at a place in al-Shām called al-Zarqāʾ. That night a lion prowled around them, and Utaybah kept saying, “Woe is me! By Allah, it is going to devour me just as Muḥammad invoked against me; he has killed me while he is in Mecca.”
وَسَلَّمَ رُقَيَّةَ وَأُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ قَبْلَ الدُّخُولِ،
وَقَالَ عُتَيْبَةُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:
كَفَرْتُ بِدِينِكَ، وَفَارَقْتُ ابْنَتَكَ، لَا تُحِبُّنِي وَلَا أُحِبُّكَ، ثُمَّ تَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْأَذَى، وَشَقَّ قَمِيصَهُ،
فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:
" اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّطْ عَلَيْهِ كَلْبًا مِنْ كِلَابِكَ "
فَخَرَجَ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ حَتَّى نَزَلُوا فِي مَكَانٍ مِنَ الشَّامِ يُقَالُ لَهُ الزَّرْقَاءُ لَيْلًا فَأَطَافَ بِهِمُ الْأَسَدُ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ فَجَعَلَ عُتَيْبَةُ يَقُولُ: يَا وَيْلَ أَخِي، هُوَ وَاللَّهِ آكِلِي كَمَا دَعَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَلَيَّ. قَتَلَنِي وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ
