Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-Masīh - Ibn Taimiya - (1/317)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Ḥudhāfah ibn Qays al-Sahmī to Chosroes son of Hurmuz, king of the Persians, and he wrote:

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Chosroes, the great one of Persia. Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance and believes in Allah and His Messenger. I testify that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. I summon you with the call of Allah, for I am the Messenger of Allah to all people, that I may warn the living and that the word may be fulfilled against the unbelievers. Accept Islam and you will be secure; but if you refuse, then the sin of the Magians is upon you.”

When Chosroes read the letter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he tore it apart and said, “He writes me such a letter while he is my vassal?”

عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ حُذَافَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ السَّهْمِيَّ إِلَى كِسْرَى بْنِ هُرْمُزَ مَلِكِ الْفُرْسِ، وَكَتَبَ: «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَى كِسْرَى عَظِيمِ فَارِسَ، سَلَامٌ عَلَى مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهُدَى، وَآمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، فَإِنِّي أَدْعُوكَ بِدِعَايَةِ اللَّهِ، فَإِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَى النَّاسِ كَافَّةً ; لِأُنْذِرَ مَنْ كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ، فَأَسْلِمْ تَسْلَمْ، وَإِنْ أَبَيْتَ فَإِنَّ إِثْمَ الْمَجُوسِ عَلَيْكَ» . فَلَمَّا قَرَأَ كِتَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَقَّقَهُ، وَقَالَ: يَكْتُبُ إِلَيَّ بِهَذَا الْكِتَابِ وَهُوَ عَبْدِي؟
