Thus Allah informed him that He would suffice him against those who opposed him from among the People of the Scripture, and He also told him that He would protect him from all people in His words:

“O Messenger, proclaim what has been sent down to you from your Lord; if you do not, you will not have conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people.” [al-Mā’idah: 67]

This is a comprehensive declaration that Allah would shield him from every human being. Each of these three general promises was fulfilled exactly as announced, and in that are several signs:

— First: Allah repelled his enemies by wondrous means beyond the ordinary course of events.

— Second: He granted him victory despite the great number, strength, and dominance of his adversaries, while the Prophet stood alone, publicly opposing them, reviling their forefathers, insulting their idols, exposing the folly of their ideas, and attacking their religion—this is among the events that defy the ordinary course of things. The mockers were among the foremost chiefs of Quraysh and the leading nobles of the Arabs. The people of Mecca, the custodians of the Sacred Precinct, were the most honored and prestigious of mankind, venerated by all nations: the Arabs submitted to their authority, and the non-Arab peoples
