Section: Allah’s Protection of His Prophet as One of the Hallmarks of His Prophethood

The seventh category concerns Allah’s sufficing him against his enemies and shielding him from all people; in this lies a proof of his prophethood from several angles. Among them is that this safeguarding confirms the Almighty’s words:

“Proclaim openly what you have been commanded and turn away from the idolaters. Indeed, We shall suffice you against those who mock—those who set up another god beside Allah—but they will soon know.” [al-Hijr: 94]

Here Allah declares that He will protect him from the mocking polytheists. He likewise announces that He will suffice him against the People of the Scripture in His saying:

“Say, ‘We believe in Allah and in what has been sent down to us, and in what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes; in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.’ If they believe as you believe, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, they are only in dissension. Allah will suffice you against them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.” [al-Baqarah: 136]
