—when a man from Quraysh— Ibn al-ʿAriqah—shot an arrow that struck him in the median vein. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, pitched a tent for him inside the mosque so that he could visit and tend to him frequently.
When the Messenger of Allah returned from the Trench, he laid down his weapons and took a bath. Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to him, shaking the dust from his head, and said, “Have you set aside your arms? By Allah, we have not set ours aside. Go out to them!”
The Prophet asked, “To whom?” Gabriel pointed toward the Banū Qurayzah. The Messenger of Allah marched against them, fought them, and they submitted to his judgment. He then referred the judgment to Saʿd, who said, “My ruling is that the fighting men be killed, the women and children taken captive, and their property divided.”
In another chain related by al-Bukhārī it reads: “Gabriel came to him with dust bound around his head.”
