from a man of the Banu Saʿida who said:
“I heard Abū Usayd, Mālik ibn Rabīʿah—after he had gone blind—remark, ‘If I could be with you at Badr today and still had my sight, I would show you the very ravine from which the angels came forth; I am absolutely certain of it and entertain no doubt at all.
When the angels descended and Iblīs saw them, Allah revealed to them: “Indeed, I am with you; so make firm those who believe” (al-Anfāl 8:12).
Their way of steadying the believers was that an angel would come to a man in the likeness of someone he recognised and say, “Rejoice! They are nothing at all. Allah is with you—charge!”’
{أَنِّي مَعَكُمْ فَثَبِّتُوا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا}
