As for the fifth category: his influence over stones, his command of them, and their submission to him. In the Sahih of al-Bukhari it is related from Anas who said:
“The Prophet, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, once climbed Mount Uhud accompanied by Abu Bakr, ʿUmar and ʿUthman. The mountain trembled beneath them, so he said, ‘Be still!’—and he struck it with his foot—‘for upon you stand only a Prophet, a Ṣiddīq, and two martyrs.’”
In the two Sahihs, on the authority of Jabir ibn Samurah, the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“I know a stone in Mecca that used to greet me before I was commissioned; I still recognize it now.”
Al-Tirmidhi reports on the authority of ʿAli, who said:
“I was with the Prophet—Allah bless him and grant him peace—in Mecca, and we went out to one of its outskirts. Every tree and every mountain that faced him would say, ‘Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.’” Al-Hakim also recorded it in his Sahih.
