and would find that it still contained ghee.

He (Jābir) said: That goatskin went on providing sauce for her household until she finally wrung it out. She then came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he asked, “Did you squeeze it?”

She replied, “Yes.”

He said, “Had you left it, it would have kept yielding for you.”

Muslim likewise transmits in his Ṣaḥīḥ, on the authority of Jābir:

“A man once came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asking for food. The Prophet gave him half a wasq of barley. The man, his wife, and their guest continued to eat from it, but when he measured it, the supply came to an end. He went back to the Prophet, who said, ‘Had you not measured it, you would have kept eating from it, and it would have continued for you.’”

And in the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections, Anas ibn Mālik relates:

“When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married Zaynab and consummated the marriage, my mother, Umm Sulaym, prepared a dish of ḥays, placed it in a stone bowl, and said, ‘O Anas, go…’
