Section: Accounts of Food Multiplication as Proofs of His Prophethood, peace be upon him

Concerning the multiplication of food, both Ṣaḥīḥ collections record the following report from Jābir:

“When the trench was being dug, I noticed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was famished. So I slipped away to my wife and said to her, ‘Do you have anything to serve? I have just seen the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in severe hunger.’

She brought out a leather pouch containing one sāʿ of barley, and we owned a domesticated kid. She slaughtered it and ground the barley; when she had finished, I cut the meat up into her cooking pot and then hurried back to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.

My wife said, ‘Do not put me to shame before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and those who are with him.’

I returned and spoke to him privately, saying, ‘Messenger of Allah, we have…’

[فَصْلٌ: قِصَصُ تَكْثِيرِ الطَّعَامِ مِنْ آيَاتِ نُبُوَّتِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ] وَأَمَّا تَكْثِيرُ الطَّعَامِ فَفِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ «عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا حُفِرَ الْخَنْدَقُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَمِصًا، فَانْكَفَأْتُ إِلَى امْرَأَتِي، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: هَلْ عِنْدَكِ شَيْءٌ؟ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَمَصًا شَدِيدًا. فَأَخْرَجَتْ لِي جِرَابًا فِيهِ صَاعٌ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ، وَلَنَا بُهَيْمَةٌ دَاجِنٌ، قَالَ: فَذَبَحَتْ وَطَحَنَتْ فَفَرَغَتْ إِلَيَّ فَرَاغِي، فَقَطَّعْتُهَا فِي بُرْمَتِهَا، ثُمَّ وَلَّيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَتْ: لَا تَفْضَحْنِي بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ. قَالَ: فَجِئْتُ فَسَارَرْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّا
