Ibn ʿAbbās related:
“The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, summoned Bilāl, who went to look for water and then returned saying, ‘No, by Allah, I have found no water.’ The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked, ‘Is there an old waterskin?’ Bilāl brought him one; the Prophet spread his two palms inside it, and a spring gushed forth from his hands. Ibn Masʿūd drank from it while the others performed their ablution.”
Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh said:
“We marched—or traveled— with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him; that day we were a little over two hundred ten men. When the time for prayer arrived, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked, ‘Does anyone have water for purification?’ A man hurried up with a small leather flask containing a little water, and no one else had any. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, poured it into a bowl, performed a complete ablution, then moved away and left the bowl. The people crowded around it, saying, ‘Perform ablution! Perform ablution!’ When he heard them, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, ‘Easy, take it easy,’ placed his hand in the water and the bowl, and said, ‘In the name of Allah.’”}
