And in the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections it is related from Jābir who said:
“I once found myself with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when the time for the ʿAṣr prayer had come. We had no water except a small remainder, which was poured into a vessel. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to it, placed his hand inside, and splayed his fingers, saying: ‘Come and make ablution; the blessing is from Allah.’ I then saw the water spouting from between his fingers. The people performed their ablution and drank, and I made sure to drink as much of it as I could, knowing it was blessed.
I asked Jābir, ‘How many were you that day?’ He replied, ‘One thousand four hundred.’”
In Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī it is also related from Jābir that he said:
“On the day of al-Hudaybiyyah the people became thirsty while the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had a small leather water bag in front of him. He performed ablution from it, and the people crowded around him. He asked, ‘What is the matter with you?’ They said, ‘We have no water for ablution or to drink except what is before you.’
He then placed his hand in the water bag, and water began to gush from between his fingers like springs. We drank and performed ablution.
I asked, ‘How many were you?’ He replied, ‘Even if we had been one hundred thousand, it would have sufficed us; we were fifteen hundred.’”
