and grant him peace—in Mecca. We walked into one of its outskirts, and every tree or mountain that came before him would say, “Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.” Al-Hakim records this in his Ṣaḥīḥ.

Imam Ahmad likewise relates, on the authority of Anas ibn Malik, who said:

“Gabriel once came to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—while he was sitting, saddened, his face stained with blood after some of the people of Mecca had struck him. Gabriel asked, ‘What has happened to you?’ He replied, ‘These people have done such-and-such to me and have done so.’ Gabriel said, ‘Would you like me to show you a sign?’ He answered, ‘Yes.’ Gabriel looked at a tree beyond the valley and said, ‘Call that tree.’ The Prophet called it, and it came walking until it stood before him. Gabriel then said, ‘Command it to return to its place.’ The Prophet said to it, ‘Return,’ and it went back until it reached its original place. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—concluded, ‘That suffices me.’”

Abu Yaʿla al-Mawsili also transmits this report in his Musnad.
