And in the version recorded by al-Tirmidhī:
“A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and said, ‘By what sign can I know that you are a prophet?’ He replied, ‘If I summon this cluster from that palm-tree, will you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?’ The man said, ‘Yes.’ The Messenger of Allah then called it, and it began to descend from the tree until it dropped before him. He said, ‘Return,’ so it went back, and the Bedouin accepted Islam.”
Al-Dārimī also transmitted, on the authority of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar, who said:
“We were with the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—on a journey when a Bedouin approached. As he drew near, the Prophet asked him, ‘Where are you heading?’ He replied, ‘To my family.’ He said, ‘Shall I not offer you something good?’ The man asked, ‘What is it?’ He said, ‘That you testify there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.’ The Bedouin said, ‘And who will testify to what you say?’ He answered, ‘This salama tree (a kind of acacia).’ The Messenger of Allah then called the tree, which was on the edge of the valley, and it came, cleaving the earth, until it stood before him. He asked it to testify three times, and three times it bore witness that it was as he had said. Then it returned to its place of origin, and the Bedouin went back.”}
