his eye was struck on the Day of Badr, the eyeball slipping down onto his cheek. They wished to cut it off, but when they consulted the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he said, “No.” He summoned him, pressed the damaged eye gently with the palm of his hand, and thereafter the man could no longer tell which of his two eyes had been injured; it became the sounder and keener of the pair.
In another wording: the Prophet lifted the eyeball, set it back in its place, pressed it with his palm, and prayed, “O Allah, grant him beauty.” He passed away, and everyone who met him remained unaware of which of his eyes had ever been wounded. This incident is reported from him by the early chroniclers of the military expeditions.
