and those dark throngs on his left are the people of Hellfire.”

Al-Zuhri said:
“Ibn Ḥazm informed me that Ibn ʿAbbās and Abū Ḥabbah al-Anṣārī both reported that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: ‘Then I was taken up until I reached a level where I could hear the scratching of the pens.’ ”

In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim it is narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd:
“When the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—was taken on the Night Journey, he was brought to the Sidrat al-Muntahā, which is in the seventh heaven. To it ascends everything that rises from the earth, and from there it is received; and to it descends everything that comes down from above it, and from there it is received.” He then recited: “when the Lote Tree was covered by that which covered it” (Qur’an 53:16).
