Al-Bukhari likewise transmits from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said: “The moon split apart in the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”

Muslim relates—on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar, in connection with the Almighty’s words, “The Hour has drawn near and the moon has been split” (al-Qamar 54:1)—that he said: “That took place during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: the moon divided into two halves, one part in front of the mountain and the other behind it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then said, ‘O Allah, bear witness.’”

Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim likewise reported: “While we were in Mecca, the moon split until it became two sections—one over this mountain and one over that mountain. The people exclaimed, ‘Muhammad has cast a spell on us!’ A man replied, ‘If he has cast a spell on you, he has not cast a spell on everyone.’” It was narrated.
