Section: The Prophet’s ﷺ miracles that pertain to divine power, action, and causation
(The Splitting of the Moon and the Guarding of the Sky by Shooting-Stars as Proofs of Prophethood)
The miracles of the Prophet ﷺ that demonstrate power, action, and effective causation are of various kinds.
The first of them is what took place in the celestial realm: the splitting of the moon; the complete guarding of the sky with shooting-stars that began when he was sent; and his ascent (mi‘rāj) to the heavens.
Allah mentions the splitting of the moon, makes it clear that He Himself brought it about, and relates it for two great wisdoms:

It is a proof of prophethood, for when the idol-worshippers asked him for a sign, he showed them the moon split asunder.

It demonstrates the possibility of the celestial sphere being rent apart, thereby confirming what the prophets have foretold concerning the splitting of the heavens. For this reason the Exalted said:
