“Whether you ask forgiveness for them or you do not ask forgiveness for them, Allah will never forgive them.” ⦗Qur’an 63:6⦘.

He, exalted is He, also said:

“And never offer the funeral prayer for any one of them who dies, nor stand by his grave.” ⦗Qur’an 9:84⦘.

So if this is Allah’s and His Messenger’s ruling on those who stayed behind and refused to fight—because they did not regard it as an act of obedience or consider it obligatory—then what must His judgment be concerning the people themselves?

Indeed, the Almighty further said:

“Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your clan, the wealth you have amassed, the commerce whose decline you fear, and the dwellings you cherish are dearer to you than Allah, His Messenger, and striving in His cause, then wait until Allah brings about His command.” ⦗Qur’an 9:24⦘.
