as two liars who will emerge after me.’

ʿUbayd Allah explained, “One of them is the ʿAnasī, whom Fayrūz killed in Yemen, and the other is Musaylimah.”

In the two Ṣaḥīḥs it is further narrated from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:

“I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was facing the east, declare: ‘Look! The tribulation is over there; the tribulation is over there, from the direction where the horn of Satan rises.’”

In one of al-Bukhārī’s transmission lines it states: He rose to address the people, pointed with his hand toward the dwelling of ʿĀʾishah, and then related the hadith.

Thus, the ‘east’ with respect to his city encompasses the region of al-Bahrayn, and it was from there that Musaylimah emerged.
