ibn ʿAbd al-Malik; after that, the blood-letting and the great tribulation broke out. They surpass the stated number only when the specified qualification is set aside, or when those who came after that period of bloodshed are added to the count.

In the two Ṣaḥīḥs it is reported from Jābir:

“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me, ‘Do you have any anmaṭ (thick woven blankets)?’
I replied, ‘Messenger of Allah, how could I possibly possess anmaṭ?’
Yet today I say to my wife, ‘Move your anmaṭ out of the way,’ and she responds, ‘Did not the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say that you would one day have anmaṭ?’”

And in the two Ṣaḥīḥs it is related from Ibn ʿAbbās that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“While I was sleeping I was shown that two bracelets of gold had been placed on my hands. I grew alarmed and disliked them, but permission was given to me, so I blew on them and they flew away, and I interpreted them as two liars.”

بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، ثُمَّ وَقَعَ الْهَرْجُ وَالْفِتْنَةُ الْعُظْمَى، وَإِنَّمَا يَزِيدُونَ عَلَى الْعَدَدِ الْمَذْكُورِ إِذَا تُرِكَتِ الصِّفَةُ الْمَذْكُورَةُ فِيهِ، أَوْ عُدَّ مَعَهُمْ مَنْ كَانَ بَعْدَ الْهَرْجِ. وَفِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: «قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ أَنْمَاطٍ؟ قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَأَنَّى يَكُونُ لِي أَنْمَاطٌ، فَأَنَا أَقُولُ الْيَوْمَ لِامْرَأَتِي: نَحِّي عَنْكِ أَنْمَاطَكِ، فَتَقُولُ: أَلَمْ يَقُلْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ لَكُمْ أَنْمَاطٌ» . وَفِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ أُرِيتُ أَنَّهُ وُضِعَ فِي يَدَيَّ سِوَارَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، فَفُظِعْتُهُمَا وَكَرِهْتُهُمَا، فَأُذِنَ لِي فَنَفَخْتُهُمَا فَطَارَا، فَأَوَّلْتُهُمَا كَذَّابَيْنِ
