remains in another region—an evident, aided community—and no external enemy has ever been empowered over the entirety of the ummah. What has occurred, however, are internal disagreements and tribulations.
Muslim narrates in his Ṣaḥīḥ, on the authority of Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Two categories of the inhabitants of Hell I have not yet witnessed: a people carrying whips like the tails of cattle with which they strike others, and women who are clothed yet naked, enticing and swaying, their heads resembling the inclined humps of camels. Such women will neither enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance, though its fragrance can be perceived from such-and-such a distance.”
Those people appeared only after a long interval, and the women surfaced many years later still, wearing on their heads turbans that look like the humps of Bactrian camels; they even call the turban “the camel’s hump.”
In another narration recorded by Muslim, from Asmāʾ bint Abī Bakr, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There will arise in Thaqīf a great liar and a ruthless destroyer.”
