go to his land.”
He then said:
A man asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what if he possesses neither camels nor sheep nor land?”
He answered, “Let him take his sword and pound its edge against a stone until it is blunted; then let him seek safety if he is able. O Allah, have I conveyed? O Allah, have I conveyed!”
Another man said, “O Messenger of Allah, what if I am compelled so that I am dragged to one of the two battle-lines, or one of the two parties, and a man strikes me with his sword, or an arrow comes and kills me?”
He replied, “He will shoulder his own sin and yours, and he will be among the inhabitants of the Fire.”
In the Ṣaḥīḥ of Abū Ḥātim it is related that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Woe to the Arabs from an evil that is drawing near, from a tribulation blind, deaf, and dumb. In it, the one who remains seated is better than the one who walks, and the one who walks is better than the one who runs. Woe to the one who runs in it before Allah on the Day of Resurrection.”
