And events unfolded exactly as He had foretold.
He also said:
“They will never harm you except for a passing annoyance; and if they fight you, they will turn their backs, and they will not be supported. Humiliation has been stamped upon them wherever they are found—except under a covenant with Allah and a covenant with other people—and they have incurred Allah’s wrath, and destitution has been laid upon them. That is because they used to deny Allah’s signs and kill the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and habitually transgressed.” (Āl ʿImrān 111–112)
And He said:
“Had those who disbelieved fought you, they would certainly have turned their backs.” (Al-Fath 22)
وَكَانَ كَمَا أَخْبَرَ.
وَقَالَ:
{لَنْ يَضُرُّوكُمْ إِلَّا أَذًى وَإِنْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ يُوَلُّوكُمُ الْأَدْبَارَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنْصَرُونَ - ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ أَيْنَ مَا ثُقِفُوا إِلَّا بِحَبْلٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَحَبْلٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَبَاءُوا بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَسْكَنَةُ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ الْأَنْبِيَاءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ ذَلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَكَانُوا يَعْتَدُونَ}

وَقَالَ:
{وَلَوْ قَاتَلَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوَلَّوُا الْأَدْبَارَ}
