Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, who said:

“When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Madinah with his Companions and the Helpers gave them shelter, all the Arab tribes turned on them as though loosing arrows from a single bow. They would retire for the night only in their armor and rise in the morning still wearing it.

So they asked one another, ‘Do you think we shall live to see the day when we can sleep in safety, fearing none but Allah, Mighty and Majestic?’

Then the verse was revealed:

‘Allah has promised those of you who believe and do righteous deeds…’ (Al-Nūr 55) to the end of the verse.”

And so it came to pass: Allah entrusted the believers with authority on earth and established their religion for them across its eastern and western lands.

The Exalted also says:

“He is the One who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth so that He may cause it to prevail over every other religion, and Allah suffices as a Witness.” (Al-Fatḥ 28)
