and that the sunset prayer consists of three rakʿahs, while each of the remaining prayers is four; that a four-rakʿah prayer is reduced to two when one is travelling; and that the prostration of forgetfulness is prescribed.

Likewise, a vast array of miracles and recurrently transmitted reports concerning the various kinds of his signs and proofs have reached the level of tawātur—so numerous that they cannot be counted.

These reports embrace both knowledge and power: detailed foretelling of future unseen matters, as though he beheld them with his very eyes, none of which occurred except exactly as he had foretold. Such a phenomenon has never belonged to anyone but a prophet.

By contrast, the soothsayer, the astrologer and the like lie far more often than they speak the truth, and when they do tell the truth it is only in vague, general terms.

As for the friends of Allah and the righteous, even the greatest of them in spiritual unveiling may relate only a few such matters—less than one hundredth of what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, conveyed—and they do not report them with the same detail that he provided. These reports also encompass various forms of extraordinary power and action.
The signs are either of the category of knowledge, information, and unveiling, or of the category of power, effect, and control.
