Thus it becomes clear that this sign was not bestowed for the sake of the House’s neighbours at that time; rather, it was for the sake of the House itself, or for the sake of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—who was born beside it in that very year, or for both together. In any case, it stands among the proofs of his prophethood.

Now, if someone argues that the episode was solely a sign for the House—guarding and defending it because it is Allah’s House, built by Abraham the Friend—then it is also known that no followers of any religion make pilgrimage to this House or direct their prayers toward it except the community of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Indeed, it was Muhammad who made the pilgrimage and the prayer toward it obligatory.

Therefore, if in Allah’s estimation this House is superior to the Christians’ churches—so much so that He destroyed those very Christians when they sought to glorify their churches and demean the House—then the religion of those attached to this House is better than the religion of the Christians. The polytheists were certainly no better than the Christians, so it necessarily follows that the nation of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is better than the Christians, and this entails that their Prophet is truthful. Were they following a false prophet, they would not surpass the Christians; they would be the worst of creation, like the followers of Musaylimah the Liar, al-Aswad al-ʿAnsī, and the rest.

As the Quran says:

“Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the companions of the Elephant? Did He not make their scheme go astray? And He sent against them birds in flocks…” (al-Fil 105:1–3).
