His Dispatching a Messenger to al-Muqawqis, King of Egypt and Leader of the Christians
Section
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, likewise sent an emissary to al-Muqawqis, the king of Egypt and chief of the Christians, who at that time was residing in Alexandria. The envoy he appointed was Ḥāṭib ibn Abī Baltaʿah, may Allah be pleased with him.
Ḥāṭib said:
I came before al-Muqawqis—whose personal name was Jurayḥ ibn Minā—bearing the letter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I said to him:
“Before you there was a man who claimed, ‘I am your Lord Most High.’ Allah seized him with an exemplary punishment in this world and the next; He took vengeance by means of him, and then took vengeance upon him. So take heed.”
