riding a dapple-grey mule, with no striking people, driving them away, or telling them to move aside. This report—and the one before it—was transmitted by Abū Shaykh.
ʿĀʾishah said: “I never once saw the Messenger of Allah laugh fully so that I could see his uvula; he would only smile. Whenever he saw a cloud or felt a wind, concern could be read on his face. I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, when people see a cloud they rejoice, hoping it will bring rain, yet when you see one I notice displeasure on your face.’ He replied, ‘O ʿĀʾishah, what assurance do I have that it does not carry punishment? A people were chastised by the wind, and punishment has already visited others.’ He then recited: ‘But when they saw it as a cloud advancing toward their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud bringing us rain.”’ (al-Aḥqāf 46:24).”
Both al-Bukhārī and Muslim include this ḥadīth in their Ṣaḥīḥ collections.
