Al-Bukhārī transmits from Anas who said:
“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was never abusive, obscene, or given to cursing. When one of us deserved correction, he would merely say, ‘What is wrong with him? May his forehead be rubbed in dust.’”
Muslim likewise records on the authority of ʿĀʾishah:
“Whenever the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was offered a choice between two options, he would select the easier of the two provided it involved no sin; but if it entailed sin he was the furthest of people from it. The Messenger of Allah never took revenge on his own behalf, except when one of Allah’s sanctities was violated.”
She also said:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, never struck anything with his hand—neither woman nor servant—except when fighting in the path of Allah. He never retaliated against anyone for harm done to him, unless one of Allah’s sacred limits was transgressed; then he would retaliate solely for Allah’s sake.”
