“Nor is it the speech of a banished devil. So where are you headed? It is nothing but a reminder to all creation.” (Surah al-Takwir 81:25-27)
The Exalted also says:
“Indeed, it is a revelation from the Lord of all beings; the trustworthy Spirit brought it down upon your heart so that you might be one of the warners, in a clear, unmistakable Arabic tongue.” (Surah al-Shuʿarāʾ 26:192-195)
And, a little further on:
“Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend? They descend upon every habitual liar and sinner: they eavesdrop, and most of them are liars.” (Surah al-Shuʿarāʾ 26:221-223)
Thus, the Most High makes plain that Satan only comes down to those who suit his purposes. For Satan seeks evil—falsehood and depravity—and has no concern for truth and justice. Consequently, he will only attach himself to someone in whom there is falsehood, whether deliberate or mistaken, for error in matters of religion is likewise from Satan. As Ibn Masʿūd said when asked about a certain issue: “I shall speak about it according to my opinion; if it proves correct, then it is from Allah, and if it is mistaken, then it is from me and from Satan, and Allah and His Messenger are free of it.”
