The Exalted also says:

“The Messenger has believed in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His angels, His scriptures, and His messengers. They say, ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers. We hear and we obey. Your forgiveness, our Lord; to You is the final return.’ — Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. It shall have what it has earned and it shall bear what it has incurred. ‘Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or err. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like the one You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not charge us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people.’” ⦗Al-Baqarah: 285-286⦘.

His ummah do not deem it permissible to take anything in religion other than what he brought, nor do they introduce any innovation for which Allah has sent down no proof; they do not legislate in the faith anything to which Allah has not given leave.

Yet whatever he narrated to them of the stories of the prophets and their nations, they took as a lesson; whatever the People of the Book related that was in harmony with what they already possessed, they affirmed; whatever they could not determine to be true or false, they withheld judgment; and whatever they recognized as false, they declared to be untrue.
