and he had dispatched it with Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi; it stated:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Heraclius, the great ruler of the Romans.
Peace be upon those who follow the guidance.
To proceed:
Embrace Islam and you will be safe; embrace Islam and Allah will grant you your reward twice. But if you turn away, then upon you shall be the sin of the arisiyyin”—that is, the peasants.
وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ دِحْيَةَ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ فِيهِ:
«بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَى هِرَقْلَ عَظِيمِ الرُّومِ، السَّلَامُ عَلَى مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهُدَى،
أَمَّا بَعْدُ:
فَأَسْلِمْ تَسْلَمْ، وَأَسْلِمْ يُؤْتِكَ اللَّهُ أَجْرَكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ، وَإِنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ إِثْمَ الْأَرِيسِيِّينَ»
يَعْنِي الْأَكَّارِينَ.
