“Go down from it, both of you, all together. You will be enemies to one another; yet if guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will never go astray nor suffer. But whoever turns away from My remembrance shall have a constricted life, and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind.” He will say, “My Lord, why have You raised me blind when I was once able to see?” He will say, “Thus it is: Our signs came to you, but you ignored them; and in the same way you are ignored today.” In this manner We requite all who transgress and refuse to believe in the signs of their Lord; and the torment of the Hereafter is far more severe and enduring. (20:123–127)
The Exalted has also said about the people of the Fire:
“Whenever a company is cast into it, its keepers will ask, ‘Did no warner come to you?’ They will reply, ‘Indeed, a warner did come to us, but we belied him and said, “Allah has sent down nothing; you are only in gross error.”’ And they will add, ‘Had we only listened or reasoned, we would not now be among the companions of the Blaze.’” (67:8–10)
He, the Most High, says:
“We would never punish until We had sent a messenger.” (17:15)
And He says:
“O company of jinn and humankind, did messengers not come to you from among yourselves, reciting My revelations to you and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?” They will answer, “We bear witness against ourselves.” The life of this world deluded them, and they will testify against themselves that they were disbelievers. That is because your Lord would never destroy any communities unjustly while their people were unaware. (6:130–131)
