heard that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had said, “I am the one who will kill him.” The Messenger of Allah then thrust at him, giving him nothing more than a scratch. His companions began to fuss over him, saying, “It is only a scratch—it is nothing at all!” But he retorted, “By Allah, had this struck even Mudar it would have killed them. Did he not say, ‘I will most certainly kill you’?”
Mujāhid relates: My patron, al-Sāʾib ibn Abī al-Sāʾib, said, “I was among those who rebuilt the House, and when Quraysh disagreed about the Black Stone matters came to the verge of drawn swords. They therefore proposed, ‘Let the first man to enter through the gate arbitrate between us.’ The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was the first to enter, and in the Days of Ignorance they used to call him ‘al-Amīn’ (the Trustworthy).”
