Saʿīd ibn Jubayr and others said, “The ahzāb (factions) are all the religious communities.”

He went on to say, “This corroborates the Prophet’s statement—peace and blessings be upon him—

‘By the One in whose hand is my soul, no Jew or Christian of this community who hears of me and then fails to believe in me will escape entering the Fire.’

He then recited the verse,
‘Whoever from the factions disbelieves in it, the Fire will be his appointed place’ (Hūd 17).

The jinn likewise declared,
‘Indeed, we have heard a Book sent down after Moses’ (al-Aḥqāf 30).
