and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
He also said:
“When the fāraqlīṭ whom my Father sends comes, he will bear witness to me. I have told you this so that when it comes to pass you may believe in him and harbour no doubt about him.”
And he said:
“It is better for you that I depart; for if I do not go, the fāraqlīṭ will not come to you. Yet when I depart, I shall send him to you, and he will rebuke the world for its sin. I still have much to say to you, but you are unable to bear it now. However, when the Spirit of Truth comes—the one who will lead you to all truth—he will not speak on his own authority; rather, he will speak whatever he hears, will inform you of all that is to come, and will make known to you everything that belongs to the Father.”
These qualities and descriptions that they received from the Messiah cannot apply to some inward feeling in the hearts of a few people—something unseen and unheard. They only fit someone whom people can actually see and hear: one who will testify on behalf of the Messiah, teach them every matter, remind them of all the Messiah told them, rebuke the world for its sin, guide people to all truth, speak not from himself but convey what he hears, inform them of everything that is to come, and acquaint them with all that belongs to the Lord of the worlds.
This, then, cannot be an angel whom no one sees, nor merely guidance or knowledge lodged in someone’s heart; it can only be a human being of great stature who addresses humanity
