John—the disciple—also reports that the Messiah said to his disciples:
“If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will ask the Father to grant you another Paraclete who will remain with you forever—the Spirit of Truth whom the world has not been able to put to death, because it has never known him. I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you soon.”
John further states that the Messiah said:
“Whoever loves me keeps my word; my Father will love him, will come to him, and will make His dwelling with him. I have spoken these things to you while I am still among you. The Paraclete, the Spirit of Truth, whom my Father will send, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have told you. I leave you my peace; let not your hearts be troubled or afraid. I am going away and will return to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father. If you abide in my word and my word abides in you, you will have whatever you want, and by this my Father is glorified.”
He also said:
“When the Paraclete comes—whom my Father will send, the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father—he will bear witness to me. I have told you this so that when it comes to pass you may believe in him and entertain no doubt about him.”
And he said, as well: “It is better for you that I depart, for if I do not go…”
